First Dental Visit F.A.Q.
It’s my child’s first dental appointment. Do you have any tips to ensure it’s a positive experience for them?
Don’t worry! Here are some tips to ensure your child’s dental visits are a huge success:
- Use positive language when discussing the dentist.
- Stay with your child during their appointments to provide comfort.
- Help your child view the dentist as their “dental home.”
- Keep things low-key; it’s best to mention the dental visit on the day of the appointment.
- If your child wants to know more about the dentist, explain that the doctor will check their teeth to ensure they are healthy.
- Ensure your child is well-rested on the day of their appointment.
- Avoid using a visit to the dentist as a threat for bad behavior.
- Be a great role model by demonstrating a strong oral hygiene routine in front of them.
Remember, dental visits are a normal part of growing up—don’t offer rewards or imply that there’s anything to fear.
Will I be able to stay with my child during their appointment?
Absolutely! We encourage parents to be present during their child’s appointments. Having a familiar face there can provide comfort to your little one, and it also allows us to involve you in creating a treatment plan for your child’s oral and overall health.
Are dental x-rays safe
Yes, they are safe! The radiation exposure from dental x-rays is minimal, and your child will be protected by a lead apron and other safety measures. Dental radiographs are valuable tools that not only help detect cavities but also monitor the growth of teeth and identify potential bone diseases and other issues. They allow the dentist to see patterns and symptoms that aren’t visible during a regular examination. By identifying and addressing potential problems early on, you can save money and prevent unnecessary procedures in the future. Depending on your child’s risk factors for tooth decay and other issues, the dentist may recommend x-rays once or twice a year.
My child is having a dental emergency. What should I do?
If your child is facing a dental emergency, please contact our nearest office, and our team will do everything we can to accommodate your child as soon as possible.
